FOMO — Has Its Benefits

Fear Of Missing Out Can Be A Good Thing.

I’ve read about many people who have FOMO. It seems they are too closely attached to various social media channels. Seeing others with things you don’t have can be demoralizing if you let it. And yep, I said if you choose to let it. I’ve learned from experience that all of life is a choice. We choose our reaction to things in our lives and how we allow those things to affect us. But I won’t defend that philosophy here but will posit that FOMO can be a good thing.

It can be an excellent thing if it drives you to accomplish specific goals. Yes, if you want a Lambo and see someone on Instagram with one, you can choose to create a detailed plan to buy one. Don’t dream about it or be envious. Take action toward what you want.

But do you want it? Or merely think you want it?

And yes, it can be emotionally damaging if it only gives you a sense of failure or actually “missing out.” But again, it’s all a matter of choice.

If you stop and think logically about it, we are all continually missing out on a whole lot more than we could ever imagine. Even Jeff Bezos, with his USD 200 Billion net worth who could quickly jet over to Paris for dinner and return right after, is continuously…
